The Malabar Fire Department, as it is known to the public, is made up of two different organizations, that both serve separate functions.
The first is the Malabar Fire Department. All members of the department whether paid or volunteers are considered employees of the Town of Malabar and they report to Michael Foley, Fire Chief and Department Head of the Fire Department. The Fire Chief is responsible for maintaining a portion of the Town’s budget typically used for vehicle maintenance, firefighting equipment, training, building upkeep and other fire department operating costs.
The Malabar Volunteer Fire Department Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation under section 501(c)(3) IRS code. The Association’s primary purpose is the recruitment and retention of members, fund raising, fire prevention, community service and public relations. All Volunteer members of the Fire Department are also members of the Association. The Corporation meets monthly and is headed by an Executive Board.
